How is it assessed

Candidates need a basic command of English (defined as Level 2). So whilst we are often able to provide support to people who for example do not have English as a first language, our ability to do so is limited by the time available and the number of people who require assistance, although we may be able to make special arrangements if requested in advance. Please contact us if you need any guidance.

Certification

Successful candidates receive a St John Ambulance (NI) certificate, valid for three years.

First Aid Annual Refresher

Course Details

Duration: 3 hours

About the Course

Employers are legally required to ensure their first aiders are competent and maintain their skills throughout the 3 years in which their certificates are valid. A person's competence will decline over time if skills they have been taught are not used regularly.

This three-hour refresher course provides first aiders with an opportunity to practise and update their skills as a qualified first aider, at any time while their first aid certificate is valid.

The HSE strongly recommends that you attend a refresher session once every year during this three year period.

Course Duration

Three hours

Who should attend?

This course is for people holding a current First Aid at Work or Emergency First Aid at Work certificate.

What will you learn?

This session builds on your expertise and confidence by involving you in realistic situations with simulated casualties. Candidates will practise first aid in practical, hands-on scenario sessions.

Assessment and certification

Continuous assessment by trainer. The course does not renew first aid certificates or extend the validity period of certificates.
